Florida DOT I-4 Ultimate Improvement
Florida Department of Transportation- District 5 and 1-4 Mobility Partners (JV of HDR, Jacobs, Skanska, Granit and Lane)
T2 provided extensive Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), Utility Coordination and Survey and Mapping services for Florida’s I-4 Ultimate Improvement project
As a member of the public-private-partnership team, T2 provided substantial Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), Utility Coordination and survey and mapping services to this signature motorway enhancement.
The $2 billion plus project included the reconstruction of 21 miles of I-4, including four new tolled express lanes integrated with the existing free general use lanes. These express lanes operate with variable tolls adjusted to improve traffic flow throughout the corridor. The project also consisted of 13 widened bridges, 74 replaced bridges, 53 new bridges and a pedestrian bridge as well as 15 reconstructed major interchanges.
T2 operated as many as 16 SUE field crews at the same time along the project corridor to complete more than 1,000 test holes in just four months. T2 Utility Engineers was the central coordinator of all field activities through our project manager’s leadership and we streamlined operational and communication procedures to expedite work order requests.
Our Utility Coordination team managed a total of 26 utility owners and more than 34,000 utility-design conflicts that were identified within the 21-mile limit, from water/wastewater, local, long-haul and cable telecommunications, as well as distribution and transmission electricity and gas.
Our familiarity with the corridor and strong, existing relationships with utility owners enabled us to rapidly obtain records, develop complex conflict-matrices and then negotiate and mitigate these conflicts effectively and efficiently.
