Road Widening for Durham College / Ontario Tech Expansion

T2 Utility Engineers (T2ue) was responsible for the Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) mapping investigation and the Utility Coordination aspects of the Simcoe Road widening project south of Conlin Road in Oshawa. The road widening was part of an on-going upgrade associated with the continued expansion of Durham College / Ontario Tech University.

The SUE investigation for this project provided key information regarding the location of the existing underground utilities to be used during the design of the project.  A combination of data from the field investigations and utility record information was used to create the Composite Utility Drawings.  The drawings show the utilities at the given quality levels as outlined in the CI/ASCE Standard 38-02.

The Utility Coordination aspects of the project involved a number of complex relocations to Bell, Enbridge, Oshawa PUC, and municipal infrastructure. T2ue’s expertise allowed for approximately $1M savings by adjusting designs to minimize the required utility relocations.
