Georgia Major Mobility Investment Program- East Side Interchange Reconstruction

T2 Utility Engineers was part of the General Engineering Consultant (GEC) team as the utility consultant for Georgia DOT’s (GDOT) Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP) I-285 @ I-20 – East Side Interchange Reconstruction. Various improvements were developed and constructed to enhance the overall operation, safety and efficient flow characteristics of the interchange.

Tasked with performing a Quality Level B Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigation, T2ue proactively managed field production and constantly communicated with the GEC team to ensure project limits and assumptions did not adversely affect scope, schedule and budget.  This proactive approach to management warranted several changes to the project limits by focusing on the areas that would be affected by the proposed design.  T2ue provided weekly utility updates to the GEC team to keep them abreast of progress and potential issues.  Ultimately, T2ue’s involvement led to the efficient and effective production of a high-quality set of Subsurface Utility Engineering ASCE Quality Level B plans, delivered on schedule and on budget.

T2 Utility Engineers scope also included Utility Coordination services, filling the key role of liaising between the GEC team and the utility owners.  Evaluating design plans to identify potential utility conflicts in a timely manner and documenting them in a Utility Impact Analysis (UIA) remained essential to aid efforts in preparing a Utility Relocation Cost Estimate and final Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and Utility Agreements (UAs).  Again, T2 continued to communicate and coordinate the utility needs of the project to the utility owners and GEC team, resulting in more efficient project management construction.
