The utility investigation within the Barrie Rail Corridor was required for the possible future rail line expansion. The railway corridor services GO/Metrolinx, connecting from Union Station to Barrie. The project area was located in Toronto, Vaughan and York Region through a combination of urban, rural, residential, commercial and industrial areas. The project area contained multiple grade separations and 24 level crossings.
The SUE investigation for this project provided key information regarding the location of the existing underground utilities. A combination of data from the field investigations and utility record information was used to create the Composite Utility Drawings (as per CI/ASCE Standard 38-02). The Composite Utility Drawings showed the horizontal alignment of the underground utilities at the described quality level over the project area providing designers with adequate information to move forward with the design.
